About us

The community engaged research team helps to ensure research seeks to answer questions important to the community and implements patient, family, and community study processes centered recruitment, data collection, and dissemination methods. Utilizing our expertise in community based participatory research and engagement research, the Community Engaged Research team partners with community led advisory boards to provide technical support to Children's Mercy research teams in the following areas:

 

  • Identifying relevant community health priorities

  • ​

  • Developing patient centered and culturally appropriate recruitment processes

  • ​

  • Connecting community partners with academic researchers to promote collaboration

  • ​

  • Identifying community-centered data collection methods

  • ​

  • Reviewing grant applications for feasibility and community centeredness

  • ​

  • Analyzing and interpreting study findings

  • ​

  • Disseminating results to caregiver and community audiences

Community Engaged Research Projects

Our team explores a variety of areas including, but not limited to, pediatric cancer trials, youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and weight management. The purpose of our research is to increase community members access to healthcare, services, and resources. By doing so, community members are given a platform to share and discuss their lived experiences with providers and healthcare specialist in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
